Goals

Now, I'll start off by saying that Goal Setting isn't really such a big thing in GTD. It's pretty decent. The views and the levels. Lately, I've been driving a bit off the tee. So, I felt my system needed a stronger a goal system. Of course, GTD is designed so that goals should actually set themselves into place. But I've had trouble prioritizing. I often find myself wondering what I should focus on my list.

Here's how it works:
I have a bunch of 'Goals' which are basically organized in the standard GTD way(The 6 level model of review ). And I keep it updated. Every time, I review, I use my Goals List to get all the necessary next actions to complete those goals.

If you look at the GTD work flow, you can see where my goals list fits in. If I happen to ever collect anything thats not in my goals list, but I consider it a goal, I put it there! Same goes for projects.

Whenever I'm unsure of what to do, I just refer to my goals list and choose the best action for the context. That way I can quickly identify what's most important and proceed. Wheres my Goals list? I made a mind map of my goals! And I have an Index card in my GTD main book which has my low-level goals for my normal review and editing(Runway - 10,000 feet).

The main drawback is that this could be pretty stressful. GTD is meant to be super-flexible. And a goals are inherently rigid. That's why I use this as a 'priority setter' rather than a 'goal'.

If you ask me, Goal Setting is the hardest thing. Everything depends on it!

I, though, was referring to making the 'Goal List', when I said 'Goal Setting'. What you think of Goal Setting, though isn't very clear.

Neat model.

A little criticism:

1. Inputs to 'Goals' are only from 'Projects'. Quite terrible an insight. Allow me a suggestion:

An arrow from 'Head' (bheja) to 'Goals', or something to that effect will be much better.

2. The actions under 'Defer it' state are not mutually exclusive. In case of overlap, there is neither preference list, nor a default course of action.

3. Loads of Pink diaries may be wasted in the process. Try reducing Resource Complexity.

Done.

And I'd rather be impulsive.

1. That is obbb.
2. Calender are always top priority.
3. Pink diaries are wonderful things to waste.
