Goals
Now, I'll start off by saying that Goal Setting isn't really such a big thing in GTD. It's pretty decent. The views and the levels. Lately, I've been driving a bit off the tee. So, I felt my system needed a stronger a goal system. Of course, GTD is designed so that goals should actually set themselves into place. But I've had trouble prioritizing. I often find myself wondering what I should focus on my list.
Here's how it works:
I have a bunch of 'Goals' which are basically organized in the standard GTD way(The 6 level model of review ). And I keep it updated. Every time, I review, I use my Goals List to get all the necessary next actions to complete those goals.
If you look at the GTD work flow, you can see where my goals list fits in. If I happen to ever collect anything thats not in my goals list, but I consider it a goal, I put it there! Same goes for projects.
Whenever I'm unsure of what to do, I just refer to my goals list and choose the best action for the context. That way I can quickly identify what's most important and proceed. Wheres my Goals list? I made a mind map of my goals! And I have an Index card in my GTD main book which has my low-level goals for my normal review and editing(Runway - 10,000 feet).
The main drawback is that this could be pretty stressful. GTD is meant to be super-flexible. And a goals are inherently rigid. That's why I use this as a 'priority setter' rather than a 'goal'.

Crunched a bit
It so turns out to me that my normal day is littered with thoughts about lameness and how unmotivated the world in general is. But when exams near, these thoughts are replaced by ideas about how short life really is and how I should really be doing what I must be.
This also brings me to reflect on some of my older days. I used to bunk classes to get more time to study! However, I never became more efficient. In fact, I just got more frustrated because I felt like I was doing less!
I guess this happens to everyone. It’s the 'last day of life' syndrome. If you were living your last day of life and you knew it, you'd better darn live it well. The idea is, the feeling of having too much time on one's hands is leads you to actually do less than more, because you feel have more time! Simple! And then when you have tests and deadlines and exams, you tend to realize how less you actually care about it and how much wish you were doing something else. But - wait - tadaaaa, if you wished you were doing that something, then why aren't you? And thinking all this is a perfect way to waste all that time, when you're crunched a bit.

Problems and Solutions
I came across this amazing revelation a week ago.
The idea is this: There are two ways to solve a problem. To take a solution to a problem or to take a problem and get a solution.
This was a major paradigm shift me. I'm so accustomed to the former that the concept of another way being available was totally neglected.
The idea is that we can take a given skill and try to apply it to all the problems wherever possible and try to solve a part of the problems. Or, we could just take some certain problem and solve it completely by learning all the necessary skills. These viewpoints are so different, its really important to understand them.
When we take a solution to a problem, we may be working n our strengths, but when we're a team, its not so useful trying to run around to so many places. When we take a problem, then we'll be forced to learn something new and theres another important point that matters more: we want to solve the problem. That sort of motivation is really important in trying to solve a problem.

The new police
Coochie coo?
Babidi Booo!!!
If you guessed right, I won't believe it. Oh well. It's called Moral policing and there's been a lot of humdrum about it in Indian blogs! So I thought about it for a while and made up a little theory.
Newbie section
Moral policing is essentially bunch of nutters protesting against things remotely related to sexual activities and affairs. Such as, Sania Mirza getting screwed because of her comments on sex(Last I remember, it was something useful).
Theory
So in India, there once was a system where the women had got nothing to do but get married and have children. The other women became whores. Then the British happened. Then independence happened. Then some thing and all happened. Now we have a bunch of smart 20-something year old educated women in cities. What happens is naturally female jealousy triggers and those women from the stone age can't stand smarty pant girls. Also, their husbands get pissed off when they see little kiddo girl go have fun. Nop. Can't do. Let's protest in the name culture! Yes sirri! So that's what they all do. Only they don't realize the world now has a press and the west need something to laugh at! Oops…wait…they still don't know what's happening because they don't believe others can be right, for they come from a time and place when knowledge was so pathetic that everyone was wrong anyway. Ah well, I can't think of any other indirect way to insult them so I think I'll just stop ranting here.
PS: No more rant posts. And yep, this is my 100th post. I'm very happy. I've loved blogging! :)

When ya stretch it...a bit
It turns out that some people just don't understand when they're told to shut up. Or to go play with the dog. Or to go have a bath. Nope. That is just exactly why certain people tend to exaggerate!
See, because when I give a movie 8/10 people immediately assume I had a great time. No moron. I did not. Actually I think I'll change that rating to -1600/10 just to satisfy my desire to confuse and annoy and to have a reason to kick your groin while I'm wearing my leather boot. And then I shall smile as if you just got promoted and I wished you the best, even though actually your balls just took a trip to Neptune.
But now what happens? Wait wait. Wonderful stories for my school children coming up! Tra la la, look ahead! :)
I did so badly in the test, I'm almost lowest in the class. No you moron, REALLY! I'm not exaggerating now! You think I'm just saying so? Well, that's all right. I'll just say that I did really well. After all, what have I got to loose? OOOHH! Oops. Yup, should've guessed. You just cut off my ass! Guess it's safe to say I lost it! :) I'll just keep smiling so that no one notices.
Seriously, for heck, what is wrong with everyone?

Updates
At first sight, it may have seemed that I have abandoned my beloved blog. But I haven't. I've just become lazy and I'm near emotional breakdown. But soon, I'll update with some nice posts. Also I'm again sorry for all my best best best ever online friends who I have shamelessly ignored these past months.

Opportunities
When a golden chance happens along one's path, and one neglects all advice and testimonial of it, and chooses to remain on one's arrogant route to the deathbed, then later realization strikes, one feels like ramming a chicken up one's arse. Really.
PS: I regret that I have been unable to update this blog regularly off late and also not been able to visit anyone's blog for a long time. This was due to rising tensions and stones in my throat(not literally). I'll try to be regular but now internet connection poses a problem as I'm back at the Holy Hell of Pathetic Internet(HHPI): Hostels. Current trends may continue for another 4 months.

Love vs Arranged
An attempt at humorous observation
Assumption: Parents are not okay with love marriage.
Assumption: Girl is hot.
For the girls:
| Arranged | Love |
| You get to marry someone your parents love and who's a total fussy wussy who has a very unattractive childlike personality and is a total mothers boy. On the bright side, your mother will be very happy. After all, that’s what's important. | You get to choose a totally adventurous guy who's a bad guy and can protect you when you need him to. He won't need spoon feeding and will handle your ridiculous tantrums. He's in control and you want to sleep with him! |
| You get a big marriage with all bells and whistles, your dream in life. | You might not get the left. |
| You get to be with all your relatives who keep talking about how fat, how tall everyone is and about how times have changed. | You get not the left. |
| You get more of your parents money if you have siblings and you get support later in life from them. | If you are poor, you get to go to a government hospitals and might even end up with a poor surgery and then the limbs that got operated will have to be amputated! |
For the guys:
| Arranged | Love |
| If you're a total mother's boy and you are a rich software engineer , you'll probably get yourself a hot papa's girl, who would have had her share of mad wild sex before opting for the conveniences of arranged marriage and at least a geek like you who would never be able to score ever, will actually get a chance! Hurrah for Indian society! | You will have to stay attractive all your life unless it’s a very strong relationship otherwise your babe will dump your smelly butt for that more attractive gray haired mature businessman! On the bright side, staying attractive gives you the ability to screw other girls!(Your partner may still dump you if she found this out) |
| You can become fat and have a smelly butt and still be patronized by your mother-in-law as long as you open doors and fall at their feet. | As before you will have to stay attractive. |
| If your partner decides you suck, you have already been patronized by your mother-in-law. No problemo. You have security! | She will dump you any blarmed time now! |
| Your sex life will be a boring dump. She lie there like a sexless doll because she's has way better than that! But of course you don't ever know that! | Your life will be filled with the best thrilling sex ever. Every time shall be different and more exciting than before. You'll never think of the good old school days like those loser arranged marriage dudes! |
Please add more!

Those times...
You know those times when you want to do something, like water the plants or eat a cupcake, some fellow comes along and advises you to do that exact same thing. Bam! You no longer want to do it anymore.
You just don't want to do that thing now because then that person will feel as though you did it BECAUSE he told you to. It's as if that person thinks we have no self capacity to think and act. Pretty annoying it becomes especially when it happens more than 3 times in an hour.

Early task review
It's hard to be productive people. One can easily get lost in the onslaught on tasks to do and end up doing too much or too less. And most of us do.
I've realized that the key to successful productivity in balance. That is properly distributing ones tasks through out the day.
The most important time is the morning or just after one wakes up. Atleast for me, I tend to to be very sleepy and very off course early in the day but I gain momentum as the day progresses. My productive time is towards the end. I used to mange my tasks at the end of the day and update them at the end. But off late I've begun doing that first thing in the day. The review cycle in GTD. This gives me something to accomplish and keep in my mind as the day passes. And I make a sort of mini day tasks list and then make another 3 level priority list which contains the 3 next actions to do in order assuming that everything is going smoothly. That way I can reduce the load on having to decide what to do, which takes a lot of time for me considering I have 150+ next actions.
For non GTDers, I suggest

Mangoes it seems
Indian Mangoes @ Anil Dash
I found the above really amusing. If you didn't click the link, it's just some dude being really happy that the USA now allows India to import mangoes there, so now they get to eat them!
I just don't understand why people go all the way to Sammy, then struggle so much to be Indian. But that's the sad reality folks. People go to the USA, then pay $1 for a totally pathetic pani puri. We get awesome road side pani puri for Re 1 around here. And it's authentic too! And these Desis watch Hindi movies, go to temples(I swear!) and also wear sarees! If they like Indian things so much, just why go all the there? Maybe they prefer the 'higher standard' of life. But it doesn't seem very high to me. It's not cool to own a sports car in the US, but it is cool in India. See?

Women
Why Men make better friends than woman
Friendship Between Women:
A woman didn’t come home one night. The next day she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend’s house. The man called his wife’s 10 best friends. None of them knew about it.
Friendship Between Men:
A man didn’t come home one night. The next day he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend’s house. The woman called her Husband’s 10 best friends. Eight of them confirmed that he had slept over, and two claimed that he was still there.

Hard and fast
You know lately I've been wondering how important 'keeping one's health' really is. Now staying currently hale and healthy and strong is very important. It would suck to have a cold(esp. with such great B'lore weather now)!
But imagine when you're 70 yrs old, you're 'healthy' as in you are alive and not in the hospital but you can't really do anything. Being 70 yrs old and walking around laughing and playing table tennis(like my super cool grandfather) is awesome I can tell you that! That's the peak of health! But he middle ground is a sad place. You are stuck. One might as well be dead rather than alive and doing nothing.
So what's one to do with staying healthy? I've decided that there are only two options. Either stay VERY healthy which implies exercise everyday, eat your veggies, lower starch intake, drink water, rest, proper cycle etc etc. If you aren't doing everything properly, you properly should bunk it and wreck your health and freak out.
Note: I really have NO idea whether one is happy doing nothing when they are old. If this is possible then all is great. But I highly doubt this is my case.
Note 2: I think the title sucks.
Note 3: Wow, this note style is cool and convenient, though totally unhealthy.

Crawling under
It comes crawling slowly out of the dark, then quickly wriggles out of sight. A worm? What is it? It comes again but I pretend to not notice it. Again. Then again. I look at it, it's a horrible sight. How did it get in? I must do something. I must get rid of it. This is no place for…for…such things! I'm scared of hitting it. No this is my territory. I cannot be frightened here! I grab the nearest old book. Wham! I hit the thing. Carefully I lift it up to see what's happened to it. It lays still. Finally! What?! No! It's crawling away! I thought it was over! I hit it again. Then leave the book there. I walk around for a while…nervous. Then I lift up the book carefully. It's lost a few of its numerous legs. Haha! NONO!! It's running away again! What deceptive creature is this? I hit it once, twice, thrice…It continues crawling, enduring and fighting defeat. I keep hitting it. This is ridiculous! Won't it die? WON'T IT???

Feedreader selections
I read a lot of stuff online and so I naturally use a feed reader.
After an unfortunate accident in Bloglines, I decided to change feed readers. I tested out Google Reader, Rojo, RSSOwl and RSSBandit, and Alertbear.
Web based readers
Google Reader: Very fast. Easy to organize. Has a nice 'Trends' feature. And also feed sharing. + Tags. But for me, it lost. It looks ugly(I really think so). And it's web based. Not a problem, but I've been using web based for a while now and I want a change to an desktop application.
Bloglines: It's fast and simple to use. Not as fast as Google Reader though. But again it's ugly. Has some cool features like Playlists, which let u 'play feeds'. And lots of other stuff.
Rojo: Looks neat, but not easy to use. Has strange controls and I don't like that it shows all the articles, even the read ones and I have no idea how to turn it off.
Desktop Readers
Alertbear: Desktop application. Quite neat. But I felt that it's a bit too 'bulky'. As in it occupies too much screen space. Too much empty space in buttons etc. But the desktop widget type thing is pretty neat. I'd use this if I didn't have so many feeds.
RSSBandit: Nice looking. But this one was slow. It took so long to load, it got annoying. Also organizing was a pain. I thought this was a dream, but it turned out really tiresome to use.
RSSOwl: Quite decent looking. Easy and fast(not as fast Greader/Bloglines/Rojo). It does all the basic stuff I'll ever need. It's perfect.
Winner: RSSOwl
Yay for me!

Pirates of the Caribbean: A Brain's dead end
Knightly was a pretty little thing. Nice pair of legs I must say. Bloom was alright. He didn't Legolas this one though.
Glaringly pathetic was that something kept happening in the story and everyone seemed to be very riled up about it, although I never really could come to grasps to what was happening. And then when all seemed confusing, YET another new 'secret story BLAH' is unveiled.
"Oh! My! I really wanted to know about HIS/HER love/weapon/secret! Wow, that really builds the story and greatly impacts the course of the story!"
Battered by an insanely large number of nouns, I was forced to indulge in the comedy of the situation even though, I'm sure, the writers didn't intend it there. 3 hours of meaningless loaf. Blah.
In the end however, Sparrow comes to the rescue with his usual antics. All the time, one would sit hopefully waiting for the bitch to cover up her legs and let the slides move on the scenes with Jacky. Nothing else was really worth the torture. Not even the action.

The cliché of a cliché
[rant]
One thing I recently noticed is how often people tend to use the word 'cliché'. Actually, I'm starting to think that the word itself is becoming a cliché. Its really annoying to find someone point out every darned cliché on the planet. Plain, I'm guilty of this too!
I don't blame people. Cliché is a actually a 'cool word'! See:
○ It has a 'e' with an accent. How cool is that?
○ They secretly hope someone will gawk at them ununderstandingly so that one may knowingly say,"A chli-shey, not cli-chey..blah blah! You don't know?".
○ It makes them appear as if they're scholars and that they may go around knowing what actually is a cliché. Makes me mentally scarred for life
Which brings me to another cliché: Mentally scarred for life. I don’t know how but off late mentally scarred kept bouncing in my head and I realized how many darned women use it to adjectivise their sad reality. I wonder if they fantasize of being mentally scarred for life.
As if mentally scarred wasn't enough, they just had to add a 'for life' there for God's sake.
Which brings me to a dying cliché: for God's sake. For God's sake, has everyone lost faith in God? Its been a while since I've seen that one! Makes people seem like a clichéd lot.
For gods, I'm mentally scarred for life writing a blarmed essay with the word cliché being repeated over 10 times.

A wee bit dropsy
Rain drops, rain drops,
Is this yet another clichéd pome?
As they fall, unlike them apple drops,
Some just look like metal dots of chrome.
They chill too and give you a big coffee bill,
Hot syrup at that, Chocolate beat em too.
Me mom shout very shrill,
When in rain, I may get the flu?
Drippity drop, droppety drip,
Woke up this morning,
Saw the rain, so much! Lets go ship!
Let me write a clichéd pome rhyming.
I'm a wee bit dropsy, droopsy,
Whats it to you? I asksy,
You are to say that you caresy,
I'm just a wee bit dropsy.

The Americans
Now, I wish to type out some his conversation I overheard, without his permission ofcourse.
"How can there be so much dust here? It is all because of these vehicles. Too many vehicles!! They should have some regulation. The government should do something. Like only you people can have vehicles and a certain class, not everybody".
"Uncle, don't worry. All fancy things, all the best things in the world, you get there. I am here only for the local, original things!"
"Aunty, take some vodka."
"No thanks beta"
"Take aunty! It's womens' rum!"
"I'm the hydraulics engineer blah blah"
[Later]"Over there engineering is considered the lowest field...only the low class society takes it"
"I can't recognize Bangalore, it is so horrible!"
Hmm this requires pondering though...
Oh well. So there's that.

Lethargic piece of work
Lethargic piece of work
Jetru's survival instincts flare up. He begins writing a lethargic piece of work to survive this arduous affair. This work - known commonly as 'Lethargic piece of work' exhibits how he can tolerate mindless waves of sound energy emanating from around the blackboard region. The photons from the white regions blind his eyes.
Incessant evaluations tire and age the happy, youthful soul. The heavy, warm air fills his lungs with a vacuum, incomparable, unbreathable… His clothes stick to his skin. Thing layers of dust stack on his body. Pain pain.
1…2…3…the attendance ceremony. The most tolerable part in this math class. Joy! Much Joy.
PS: The attendance ceremony actually goes with corresponding names, but hell.

Cool and Not-so-cool and Cool
What the cool people think about the not-so-cool people: "Certain cool and modern things are to be done with tremendous attitude and in a vaguely aloof manner so as to incite the senses of any onlookers and to feel good about thyself but these people…euch. Reminds me of how cows eat hay, so crude"
What not-so-cool people think about cool people: "These people! Who do they think they are? They just have tremendous attitude and are vaguely aloof. How arrogant! They remind me of those arrogant cows that don't eat hay but take that pre-digested food instead!"
What actual cool people about the above two: "Really, it doesn't matter"

Waves
The waves roared onto the rocks. None question them. None ask why. None command them. For if they do, they are fools. Free and happy, waves they are.
Nobody asks us why you're smaller or bigger than the other. We don't even compare amongst ourselves, not even subconsciously. We are loyal beings. Once we set our place we set to it till we break. We learn what we love. About the fish, the winds. Nothing else matters.
Nobody says they know more or less. Nor that they're better or worse. For all knowledge is given to us by the rest of the world. We pride not over things that happen to us which were not under our control, such trivial things. We are equal all. We love all.
We are never alone. We grow together. Some become big, some small. But none is envious of the other. For we all have a purpose. For we all remember our humble.
We may die peacefully on a tranquil lonely beach or be splotched about by a bunch of holidaying kids. We may thrash violently at rocks or gobble up whole buildings. But we unlike that hideous race of humans, do not laugh at each other for any of these. We are not Communist! No! We understand.

Arguments arguments
I personally don't like talking about religion and politics. Actually I do love to. Only I avoid them.
People start talking about it and end up yelling and cursing and of course nobody wants to change their mind. Usually these sessions end up with someones feelings hurt, no progress will have been made. In cases where nothing evil happens, all the people are either detached, which is very good, because this is real productivity. Or all the discussors have similar views. Which makes them all agree with one another and this makes them think that they are correct. And the problem with this is that they usually aren't. And this can be problematic, because this drives one to be more unaccepting of opposing ideas. So what happens? The whole world splits into bunches of people with similar opinions and lots of people never know anything properly.
Human pride is the problem. Nobody ever likes to accept anything different or new. Even if they actively try to be so, ESPECIALLY in controversial matters such as religion, sex and ethics. Everyone wants to be correct and who the hell can blame us eh?

Many Lives, Episode 2
Vik stared at the blood on the floor, his sister was writhing painfully on the floor, flowing red. The Arabic man with a red sword was shouting at the bank manager invoking Allah's curses and saying Quranic passages and saying something about 'keys'. Three other middle east men stood nearby, pointing guns at a petrified hostage crowd. She was going to die in front of them, she was barely alive. Vik stared. His mother held him tightly and he could feel her shaking. It was a nightmarish hell. He tried waking up. He didn't.
Vik's full name was Ranavik Jenson. Everyone called him Vik. He parents were Finnish, but he grew up in the States. His parents immigrated there before he was born and were thoroughly settled. "I don't know what Dad does, something at the Embassy", was his answer when his friends asked him what he does. His Mom was a Doctor. Rarely at home.
Vik hated religion. He cared about was his sister, and she was gone. He grew up with her his whole life. And ofcourse, she was old enough to be his mother.
He looked back at Jack, decided to ignore him and walked on. He couldn't be late for his date. It was evening. Almost dark. Jack had always tried to be a maverick. No one ever let him, ofcourse.
Vik thought about his 'dark' past. It wasn't so dark he told himself, smiled involuntarily and walked on. It wasn't so dark. He just blew things to epic proportion is his mind.

Peeing on trees
I recently got pissed off by a friend who claimed pissing on the trees would make holes in them and it is unhealthy and all things bad.
Research.
Human Urine is actually used as a fertilizer. For small plants it is diluted 1:10 or more. For large trees I expect that one can directly pee, no problemo!
'Fresh' urine is actually more sterile than a lot of the fertilizers available out there. All the bacteria are filtered out by your body. Result is something so rich, it's a tad bit too rich. And also with too much salt, hence the dilution. Urine is eco-friendly. And even developed contries are looking into it's potential uses as a fertilizer.
So, hell. Pee on all the plants you want. Just make sure no-one's watching.
PS: Much consternation has been undergone by me while writing this ridiculous post. I have been ridiculed, labeled jobless and laughed at. But for the tree hugging community, this is indeed a millenious event.

The Time Slip Theory
'Time shall slip through your slimy fingers'
An infamous theory made by a dead and unremembered great theorist, The Time Slip Theory explains all annoying phenomenon related to your time management problems.
In essence, it states "You suck at this". The theory gained widespread prominence in the 20 century as people started having more work than time. Insane as it may seem to compare work and time, we oversimplify the problem by assuming that since work TAKES time, work IS time. We thus can, retaining our measly sanity, say that we have more work than time. Coming back to life, people often feel overburdened with work, this is simple to understand, since, if you are reading this, you are advanced enough to want to do too many things. Yes, it's sad.
Let us try to understand why this happens. Firstly, there exist the Statoblasters. That's just the kind of statement from me that shows I have much time (see later), therefore less time.
Secondly, your fingers are slimy. Not my fault. Your fingers are ill conditioned for holding the fabric of time.
Lastly, the theory states so. It WILL slip. So there.
Another theory commonly used in conjunction with the Time Slip Theory is the even more popular Less is More Theory, which states,
'Less is More'
Essentially, when you have more work than time, time relatively seems less, but then actually you have more time, which, explains why people do nothing useful most of the time: they have too much of it!
PS: About the series 'Many Lives', it's ridiculously hard to make stories. I never really appreciated story writers until today. It'll move slowly. But it'll move for now. All suggestions welcome.

Many Lives, Episode 1
"C'mon Jack."
Jack turned back, "You guys go along".
"Jack, you're such a spoilsport sometimes".
"Hey, he's in a mooood!"
"Guys let's go"
They left laughing, shouting and talking.
He stared back at the ocean. "It wasn't always like this, was it?", he asked himself. He stared at the scars on his wrist. Sometimes he thought he felt them stinging, like a reminder, an alarm. "But they shouldn't now", he thought. "Even now?". "That's crazy, Vik", he told himself. He left Jack to sit by the rocks, saw his clenched fist and angry posture, thought it was best to leave him alone, and followed his friends. Nicole had turned around, saw him coming, "Guys, Vik is coming...". They waited and left for their separate dates...it was Valentines. Jack ditched it.
