Real Happiness?
There are these 'gurus' and 'saints' who go around claiming that by praying, meditating or following certain practices, they have attained true bliss. They say they have a calm state of mind and they are never unhappy.
Now, I don't believe them. I'm not saying they are sad, I'm saying they aren't happy. From my point of view, I have no idea how someone can just sit at a place for 2 hours straight and be happy about it. Maybe they do have a peaceful mind. Doing that once a week might make you happy. But living like that would be like... sitting in the toilet forever. The last thing I want to do is sit around(or on top) for the rest of my life...
My theory is that these dudes(yea, dudes) have somehow eliminated emotion from their brains and therefore, they think they are very happy. I say this because I don't see how everything can make a person happy. If one thing makes a person happy, the opposite should make a person unhappy. If it doesn't, the poor guy MUST have lost it. There is no way TV can make you happy and no TV still make you happy, all else being equal. That is madness.
Ofcourse, they may be unhappy on the inside and they may just be pretending. But being angry and still being able to put a smile on your face is really hard. It makes you want to pull your hair as opposed to pulling others legs.
What's your opinion?
I have just one more exam- Kannada(Second Language). Aw, crud! I make better chicken tikka masala and gobi manchuri than kannada answers(How the hell does one make chicken tikka masala anyway?). Ofcourse, after that I have to write some 6 competitive exams from IIT-JEE to the local entrance exam(K-CET). And IIT-JEE is just 5 days away. Eeps.
10 drops:
//have somehow eliminated emotion from their brains and therefore, they think they are very happy.
They don't thik they are happy rather they think they aren't unhappy. neutral feeling!perhaps.
//But being angry and still being able to put a smile on your face is really hard.
certainly yes.
happiness is rather subjective. Kill all the expectations from anything and anybody,I guess you'll happy!
- guru neha :D
good luck for the remaining.
G'luck on the exam!
Thanks ,you two.
Hi dude.... all the very best for JEE tomorrow.... Im sure you will rock the exam....!
They're neither happy nor sad.
They're just blissful! Only one peacful content perfectly happy state. They're above sadness or happiness.
Don't worry if you don't understand their state. When you rise up to that level maybe you will.. Learn to acknowledge that things which you cannot even imagine, are possible. Take examples from your life. This is called foresight.
Afterall, how much of differential equations can a nursery kid understand. He'll reject it saying its rubbish.

They're not sitting around, we are. They have walked and reached.
@praveen
Thanks. But I highly doubt being able to get even Metallurgy...lol. Here I am browsing websites, hehe.
@anon
I kind of understand it. But is that better? Isn't it boring? To not be excited. How can one enjoy something good when one does't experience the bad?
>>Don't worry if you don't understand their state. When you rise up to that level maybe you will... Learn to acknowledge that things which you cannot even imagine, are possible. Take examples from your life. This is called foresight.
Hmm...yes. That's interesting. A lot of things seemed utterly impossible before. But now I've learnt that those things were impossible because I didn't even try. They were infact all easily within my grasp.
>>They're not sitting around, we are. They have walked and reached.
You mean mentally they are at a stage where they see good in everything and enjoy their every experience?
Thanks for the comments on my blog and I hope you liked visiting.
I find your blog pretty interesting and realised that this post had a lot of scope for debate and I must say that it was a good topic you chose to talk about.
Hmm, in my opinion, the true happiness or unearthly peace of these saints comes not from meditation or something of the sort, but from renunciation of wordly pleasures, which is my idea of sainthood.
Considering your point:
"I have no idea how someone can just sit at a place for 2 hours straight and be happy about it"
I guess not everyone can be a saint. And, from what I can see, you and I, most certainly can't!
*worldly pleasures
Hey...
I found your blog after going through several links, and it makes terrific reading..:)
That's an interesting topic you chose..
"From my point of view, I have no idea how someone can just sit at a place for 2 hours straight and be happy about it."
Being happy depends on what you think happiness is..there are people who think happiness is all about having everything you want in the world..others who live on sadistic pleasures..
I don't understand how someone who meditates all day can be happy, but, I guess we all just have different ideas on what happiness is..
I'll be reading and commenting more often..:)

Happiness is more like a reaction. You can't break bricks and say your hadns don't hurt unless you have trained a lot. Happiness has to be the same way. There is no way I can tell myself 'Be happy with what I have' and follow that. Chances are the opposite happens. But then again, I would rather 'earn' my happiness than be happy just by doing nothing.
