Banning The DaVinci Code?

I was watching NDTV this morning(great achievement for me) and I was surprised to see that The DaVinci Code movie might be banned in India. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that any movie be banned.

Quote from NDTV.com
"I&B Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said a decision on banning The DaVinci Code will be taken after various Catholic groups express their opinion. "
Lamers! If they ask those Catholics, they'll obviously get a negative. Besides Catholics are a minority. Why not take a poll from random people?

I think that no movie, book or any other type of 'media' should be banned. It's okay to restrict it to particular age groups, like restricting very violent games to adults, not that anyone follows it. If they want, they can ban Catholics from watching the movie. That way all the Catholics will be happy. Although, I think that beats their point.

I've read the book and it's nothing big. It just says that Christianity is a load of bull or some such. But I always knew that, except, in the general form: [Insert Religion here] is a load of bull.

I'll watch the movie even if it is banned. At any rate, it shouldn't affect me because I watch all movies at home and I can always download it.

And please don't comment about how people can follow whatever religion they want. Ofcourse they can. I respect their choice.

EDIT: Looks like it won't be banned even after the Catholics opposed it. Hah!

Yes, that was a totally ridiculous idea. That film was well received in most western countries, most of which are Christian majority countries. Dont know what these idiots here want.

Fortunately, the government cleared it and it's up to the Censor Board to do anything and I dont think they'll do much. If they do, then they'll give more credence to the theory that India is a free country only naam ke vaaste.

Till now I was believing something was wrong with the HRD minister, but well....I think dementia is infectious.

A movie has to be seen as a movie,nothing more, nothing less. No one is asked to dissect it and go into itz history.

I Guess all the ministers want to shoot up to limelight these dayz... Every one wants to be big in their own way cribbing on something or the other..

I completely agree with you over this one! I too read the book and find it wont have so much of a communal effect here...

Dont blame to christians only.Blame Indians.It is in our genes to protest anything which come across.

You when Satanic Verses was published it was first banned in India...not in any Islamic country but India first.
Also Da Vinci Code will be shown in many parts of the world where christians are in majority, in many places the governments have slammed the protesters as absurd. But in India we see the this stupidity that our politicians give so much hype to the controversy.I read in newspaper a corporator in mumbai announced award of 11 lakh rupees to anyone who kills Dan Brown....what a stupidity.

@strictly for my friends
I bet it was a fake.

@praveen
Yea, most Indians won't understand it anyway. Typical Bangalorean:"Yen aytho? Artha ne agtilla!"

@shake saab
11 lkh rupees to kill him? Dan Brown is worth more than that

@neha
Yeh kaise ho gaya? :D

@everyone
I agree

@generally
Eh? That means allowing only adults to play it. At any rate, I don't think video games are bad. It's better to kill someone in a game than in real life. I completely support video games with blood, mutiliated bodies, sex, whatever. It's just a game and adults should understand that.

Hey, freaky...just wrote a post on it myself...yeah it sucks though i would disagree on you saying that "Lamers! If they ask those Catholics, they'll obviously get a negative. Besides Catholics are a minority. Why not take a poll from random people?
Cause its attacking their belief, even if they are a minority, christians have a right to be questioned and to question.

Obviously in a real world, one's beliefs are attacked. We can't pretend "And there was light!". Sure, let them believe. But if they have a right to believe I have the right to laugh at them.

Anyway, what I meant was that the Board can't base their decision based on the views of 10 die-hard Catholics. That's ridiculous, because they probably won't even watch the movie. And the movie might attack their beliefs, that doesn't mean they don't want the movie to be screened. It only means they are insecure about their beliefs.
