Nicer than usual
I just noticed people seem to be MUCH more nicer on the internet. So, I started thinking about it. Here are a few reasons I could come up with:
- Time: You get time to think before you type. So you type nicer things.
- Perception: You want to be treated nicely. So you take things more positively by default on the internet, because your subconscious does not have the body language information to correctly decipher intent and the thoughts of the other person. Heh.
- Smartness: On an average, people who use the internet are smarter. Smart people know that they need to be nice.
22 drops:
haha...ummm.. you have a point though.
as for rest i don wanna think...my mind is exhausted!
PS: pls dis-allow this word verification! such a big one...:((((
hahhahaha.... very true... who knows... may be we 2 are one amg the list... ;-)
@neha
Even I don't stay away that late
@preeti
Yea, you are all on the list.
//"On an average, people who use the internet are smarter. Smart people know that they need to be nice.."//
Hmmm... Nice one... flatterin all readers ..
@praveen
haha. You don't see rowdies on the internet, do you?
It depends where you look. It's a free space with anonymity as a cover...I've encountered some of the rude ones... It's too much of a generalisation.
Do check my reply to your commment on tanvi's post
ciao :)
I kinda agree with Advitiya....some crappy fools also use the internet, and after a coupla incidents, I have actually stopped going to those chat rooms...
@adi and equi
Those guys who use rude words on the Internet? I don't take them too seriously because they're just seeing how people will react. They really don't care much. I haven't encountered any rude people for the last 1 year atleast. There are a few arrogant ones, but not rude.
There are rude people on blogs too. I got a series of anonymous comments from this weird person who was hell bent on attacking me personally leave alone my post. I'ts a mix out there. You gotta take the black with the white.
Clearly Jetru has had a very safe blogging journey :D
@adi
I don't feel personally attacked when I'm attacked on the web. I don't see why anybody will attack a stranger on the internet. It's just weird and a waste of time. Chances are that it's somebody you know.
hey jetru, are ur resultz out?
Nope, they postponed it, naw? It's on Thursday I think.
Okk.. Btw , wht does Jetru mean?
I know itz actually Diturbing the sequence... Still.. Wud be b8r in case u lemme know ur orkut profile URL..
Hmmm.. Those r some nice observations..
May i add a few more:
1) Ppl want other ppl to visit their blog more often.. so they say statements like "Nice to have u here. Hope u wud drop by again.. Blah Blah."
2) Some ppl even cud have flirtatious intentions.. (u knw wat i mean) ;)
But all these are just a handful of ppl, i believe.. I think most ppl here are honest and say things straight from the gut, whether gud or bad, behind the veil of anonymity..
:)
..Me
There is a mix actually but you are right one must not take internet debates personally I am glad you think so considering the debati between you Adi and somewhere me going on the feminism thing... ;)
At times I have seen people make rude personal attacks but then noone stops you from replying so its a fair deal..
Largely on my blog atleast I have been happy with the response though erred by certain comments there is no greater high then being able to stand for yourself... I love debating:)
@praveen
I don't use orkut.
My name means nothing.It was just a name I made up 4 years ago for myself on neopets.com from names of the "neopets". I've hung on to it since.
@rose
Oh, I am VERY flirtatious! What about you, sweetie?
@tanvi
You love debates? I kill people at debates. I hadn't realized that I confuse people a lot until someone told me.
first off, thanks for the link. and about the 'people are nice online' thing - hmm, not all smart people know that they need to be nice - in fact, sometimes it's important not to be nice. And I think people are smarter if they realize that - if someone's nice all the time; it's not because they're smart... it's prolly cuz they're really scared of confrontations or explanations. just my opinion. :P
You've got a point there. Hmmm...Smart people usually try to avoid confrontations, atleast the violent stuff. Maybe because they have better work to do? Confident people don't bother much about such stuff. just my opinion, :P
"You love debates? I kill people at debates. I hadn't realized that I confuse people a lot until someone told me."
Dude I am scared I don't wanna die so soon ;)
Besides you sure have left me confused???
Oh dude I loved debating with you... a fresh change from what I'm used to...
Don't think you are confusing...you are confused ;)
@tanvi
Don't worry. It doesn't hurt.
@adi
What are you used to?
And I'm not confused. It's just that I can't communicate certain abstract ideas very well.
Heh, not always. And they can turn out to be just as nice in real life.
