Mangoes it seems

Indian Mangoes @ Anil Dash

I found the above really amusing. If you didn't click the link, it's just some dude being really happy that the USA now allows India to import mangoes there, so now they get to eat them!

I just don't understand why people go all the way to Sammy, then struggle so much to be Indian. But that's the sad reality folks. People go to the USA, then pay $1 for a totally pathetic pani puri. We get awesome road side pani puri for Re 1 around here. And it's authentic too! And these Desis watch Hindi movies, go to temples(I swear!) and also wear sarees! If they like Indian things so much, just why go all the there? Maybe they prefer the 'higher standard' of life. But it doesn't seem very high to me. It's not cool to own a sports car in the US, but it is cool in India. See?

Agree! Agree and double agree! And, higher standards my foot! I read in a blog about the racism in the US. So, brilliant americans, which are very rare, live a real high standard life there. But, even brilliant indians, drive their car, with the possiblity of the cops pulling them over for a terrorist check! So... no high standards.

You're right..ppl who become NRIs are all gaga about the fact that they are Indians but they don't like stepping here in India..they think the country is still crappish..and that paani puri thing is really correct. But it's not true for all the Indians staying outside the country. Some stay out of compulsion..anyway..cheers!

I'm an American; I was born in the U.S. But that doesn't stop me from being proud of where my family is from, and certainly helps me appreciate good food, since that's one of my passions.

You're looking at my life entirely through your own insecurities or hangups -- I am sure there are parts of American culture you appreciate or adopt (my friends who made Blogger are American, for example), but I don't criticize you or say you "want to be American" because you use or do American things.

There's nothing wrong with respecting someone else's choices.

@anil dash
You've missed my point. What I was trying to say was that you(meaning Indians gone american) are not proud of India. See you were born there. So let's leave you out. But there are so many people migrating abroad. And they constantly crib about poor indian system etc. Are these people proud of their country?

I have no hang ups about people embracing other cultures. I love burgers and I thought Christina was hot and all that crap. I do have problems about people saying they don't like a particular culture and yet continuing to 'do it'. I find it hypocritical. Would you like it if I came to the USA and constantly grumbled about how sad it is compared to India?

Grammar. Tch Tch.

Indians, da.

Besides, being in Sam land helps the India rake in money.

Do I seem to be influenced?

It's just the factor 50 or 40 we bloody Indians use. Earn peanuts there in the US and multiply it by 40 and keep seeing it. I am currently staying in Europe and I know what India means to me! The whole of summer I am here which means I have missed the mango season in India. :(

And I am here as an academic visitor. Bah.

@Ajan - Dude, the tamil rap band is from malaysia. Not from the US. Some crappy assholes do act like smart asses, but not all are like that.
